No raids have been conducted in Montgomery County yet; however, the Hatboro-Horsham School District has protocols in place in the event that it does happen in the future.
It is a possibility that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials could conduct raids at homes, businesses or even schools. The district's policy states that all students have protections and rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
HHSD has established protocols to lawfully comply with the recently revised guidelines.
“Hatboro-Horsham School District has established revised protocols to lawfully comply with the recently revised legal guidelines, while maintaining our commitment to providing all students with a safe and supportive learning environment,” said Scott T. Eveslage, Superintendent of Schools.
Students are protected under the 4th Amendment the 14h Amendment to the Constitution, and HHSD stressed that any law enforcement request would have to go through proper legal channels and protocols.
"Our modified protocols reinforce our steadfast commitment to ensuring those rights are lawfully protected," Eveslage added. "Any law enforcement request to access school grounds or student information must go through proper legal channels and established district protocols to ensure we maintain both student safety and privacy rights.”
