Hatboro will welcome the New Year with a brand-new tradition this year, hosting its first-ever "Hat Drop" celebration in the heart of the borough’s business district.

The family-friendly event will take place from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the intersection of York Road and Moreland Avenue, centered around the Moreland and Orchard Shoppers Lot behind local businesses. The early-evening timing is designed to allow residents of all ages to participate while also encouraging visitors to continue celebrating at nearby restaurants and shops afterward.

“This event is being held in the business district to assist our business owners,” organizers said in a post. “Thank you to the Pennypack Events Committee & Borough Council for hosting this event, Royson Engineering Co. for creating and making the Hat, Enterprise Fire Company of Hatboro volunteers for dropping the Hat, and our staff who are giving up personal time on this busy evening to make sure this event happens.”

The highlight of the event will be the ceremonial lowering of a large hat, a nod to Hatboro’s name and identity, as the countdown to the New Year approaches. The hat was designed and constructed locally by Royson Engineering, marking a collaborative effort between borough organizers and the local business community.

Parking for the event will be available at the municipal lot on Bank Street and the commuter lot behind the Hatboro Police Station, accessible from East Moreland Avenue. The Shoppers Lot itself will be closed to vehicles during the celebration to allow space for the event setup and pedestrian access.

On-street parking along York Road will also be available, and attendees are encouraged to follow posted restrictions and be mindful of nearby neighborhoods.

Borough officials are encouraging residents to arrive early, dress for the weather, and support local businesses before and after the celebration. While the Hat Drop is a new addition to Hatboro’s calendar, organizers hope it will quickly become a beloved community event and a source of local pride.

Organizers hope the event will establish a new annual tradition that brings residents together while showcasing the borough’s small-town character.

The Hat Drop celebration is free and open to the public.
