A Hatboro native is being recognized on the national stage for his standout college football season.
Ryan Schernecke, an offensive tackle at Kutztown University, has been named one of eight national finalists for the 2025 Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award, presented by the Manheim Touchdown Club. The award honors the top lineman in NCAA Division II football.
Finalists were selected by sports information directors from across the country, with two players chosen from each of Division II’s four super regions. Schernecke represents Super Region 1 alongside Slippery Rock offensive tackle Joe Cooper.
Schernecke played a key role in leading Kutztown to a perfect 13–0 record and a return to the Super Region 1 championship game. The Golden Bears captured their third consecutive PSAC title this season and finished ranked fourth nationally in scoring offense and fifth in sacks allowed. For his performance, Schernecke earned All-PSAC East First Team honors.
Adding to his memorable season, Schernecke is the only finalist this year to score a touchdown, rushing for a two-yard score in Kutztown’s win over Millersville.
The winner of the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award will be announced later this season.
