The annual Blue Light Ceremony in Horsham Township carried added significance this year as Deputy Police Chief Adam Dunning read the names of fallen officers for the final time.

At the conclusion of Tuesday night’s event, Police Chief Scott Fida publicly announced Dunning’s upcoming retirement, marking the end of a distinguished career spanning nearly three decades.

Dunning began his service in 1997 as a dispatcher before becoming a police officer in 2000. Over the years, he rose steadily through the ranks, eventually being appointed deputy chief in January 2023. His career includes a wide range of assignments, including 2.5 years in the traffic unit, detective work beginning in 2011, and leadership as sergeant of the detective division starting in 2018.

"He is a huge asset, he has had his hand in just about everything you can think of in our department," officials said at the time of his promotion to Deputy Chief.

Dunning is also one of only two Horsham officers to receive the department’s commendation for valor.

In addition to his supervisory roles, Dunning has served the community in several specialized capacities, including as a crash reconstructionist, a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and a contributor to the Montgomery County Narcotics Task Force.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Dunning is known for his commitment to family. He and his wife, Tiffany, have two grown sons, one of whom currently serves in the United States Air Force.

Dunning’s retirement marks the close of a career defined by service, leadership, and dedication to the residents of Horsham Township and Montgomery County.

Project Blue Light

The community gathered for the annual ceremony honoring the dedication of local law enforcement and remembering the 29 fallen officers of Montgomery County. The program featured remarks from Horsham Township Council President William Whiteside, Township Manager Bill Walker, Deputy District Attorney Kelly Lloyd, and Kim Henderson, representing Commissioner Thomas DiBello.

Adding to the solemn atmosphere, the Simmons Elementary 4th and 5th Grade Chorus performed throughout the event, and Police Chaplain Michael DeLucia delivered both the invocation and benediction. The ceremony also brought together representatives from numerous police departments across Montgomery County, underscoring a shared commitment to service, remembrance, and support for one another.
