Man accused of stealing more than $1,400 in merchandise from Willow Grove Mall, according to police

An Abington Township man is facing a felony charge after police say he attempted to steal more than $1,400 worth of merchandise from the Macy’s at Willow Grove Park Mall on Nov. 28.

According to police, Macy’s security contacted police around 2:06 p.m. for a retail theft in progress. Security staff reported watching a man, later identified as Carlos Mocada, 68, of Philadelphia, on store cameras as he selected numerous items in the Men’s Department on the second level.

Mocada gathered multiple packs of Tommy Hilfiger and Jockey briefs, several Club Room shirts and sweaters, a Calvin Klein hooded jacket, a Marc New York leather jacket valued at $595, and other clothing items. The total value of the unpaid merchandise was $1,440.48.

Mocada was seen cutting tags and removing security sensors before putting the leather jacket on, carrying another jacket over his arm, and stuffing the remaining items into a white Macy’s bag he brought with him, according to police.

Mocada then walked to the first level and exited the store through the mall entrance without paying. Macy’s security stopped him outside the store and detained him until officers arrived.

All stolen merchandise was recovered at the scene. 

Mocada is facing a multiple felony charges of retail theft.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 24, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Juanita A. Price.
