As the holiday season ramps up, the Horsham Police Department is urging residents to stay alert and take extra precautions to avoid becoming victims of theft.

With shoppers filling stores and cars packed with gifts, this time of year often presents prime opportunities for thieves looking to take advantage of distracted or rushed residents.

Police note that something as simple as leaving shopping bags or wrapped presents visible inside a vehicle can turn into an easy “grab-and-go” theft—sometimes leading to further damage or more serious crimes.

To help the community enjoy a safe and trouble-free season, the department shared several key safety tips:

Holiday safety tips from Horsham Police include:

Stay alert: Walk with confidence, keep your head up, and be aware of your surroundings.

Park smart: Choose well-lit areas and, when possible, park near surveillance cameras.

Trust your instincts: If something feels off, it probably is.

Change up routines: Avoid being predictable in your daily routes and habits.

Always lock your vehicle: And never leave your keys behind.

Hide your belongings: Keep gifts, packages, and valuables out of sight—preferably locked in the trunk.

Don’t leave your car running: Unless using a remote-start system that keeps doors locked.

A bit of caution, officers say, goes a long way toward keeping celebrations cheerful and crime-free.
