In recognition of National Recovery Month this September, Montgomery County will host a special event titled “Reflections in Recovery” on Sept. 9, 2025, at Theatre Horizon. This gathering reflects the county’s strong commitment to supporting recovery by bringing together government leadership, policy, and lived experience to inspire meaningful change.
The program will open with remarks from Congresswoman Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania’s 4th District. Following her address, the event will feature two fireside conversations facilitated by Montgomery County Commissioner Jamila H. Winder and Dr. Latika Davis-Jones, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs.
Among the featured speakers are Dr. Latika Davis-Jones; Congresswoman Madeleine Dean; Commissioner Jamila H. Winder and her brother, Randy Winder; Lori Vargo Heffner, President of the Northampton County Council; Dr. Monica Taylor, Chair of the Delaware County Council; and Darnell Hinton, Founder and President of Teach One Feed One and CEO of Unity Sober Living Homes.
The program will include two key discussions. The first, “Recovery and the Power of Family,” will feature Commissioner Winder and her brother Randy in a candid, personal conversation about their shared journey through recovery, the challenges they’ve overcome, and the enduring strength of familial support. They will be joined by Darnell Hinton, who will share his own recovery experience and how it has shaped his work in advocacy and support.
The second conversation, “Leadership and Community Resilience,” will highlight Lori Vargo Heffner and Dr. Monica Taylor as they explore how community leadership can foster recovery-friendly environments and build systems that sustain long-term change. This event offers a powerful platform for reflection, dialogue, and renewed commitment to recovery throughout Montgomery County and beyond.
