Bryce Harper has Mets-colored batting gloves and cleats. No, it's not a coincidence.

Bryce Harper showed up to Citi Field Monday wearing bright orange batting gloves and blue cleats to face the New York Mets. The two-time NL MVP knew what he was doing.

Harper revealed during a podcast appearance with Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer earlier this season that he had some "rivalry packs" of cleats and batting gloves planned for this season. It's fair to assume this is one of those.

"My favorite cleats that I'm gonna wear are later this year. It's actually the rivalry pack," Harper said in the June interview. "And so, with certain teams I'm gonna wear their colors against them. So like, when we go into a certain stadium, I'll have their team's colors as my cleats and my batting gloves. ... I thought that was just like a cool thing that I could do."

As you can see in this screenshot, Harper's cleats and batting gloves almost match the catcher's gear of Luis Torrens:

The Phillies' remaining road schedule during the regular season includes the Milwaukee Brewers, Miami Marlins, Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks. Of those four teams, the Marlins are the only one that's really a rival, so it will be interested to see if Harper shows up to Little Havana from Sept. 5-7 wearing teal batting gloves and cleats.
