Every day, children’s lives are put at risk by drivers who ignore school bus stop signs. But with the launch of a new enforcement program, Hatboro-Horsham School District is taking an important step to protect its students and hold dangerous drivers accountable.
As of June 1, 2025, all school buses in the Hatboro-Horsham School District are now equipped with photo enforcement cameras designed to identify and penalize motorists who illegally pass stopped school buses. This enhanced safety measure is part of a year-round initiative implemented in collaboration with BusPatrol, the Horsham Police Department, and the Hatboro Police Department to ensure the well-being of our students as they travel to and from school.
The program uses advanced camera technology to monitor for violations when school buses are stopped with their red lights flashing and stop-arm extended. Under Pennsylvania state law, all drivers must come to a complete stop at least 10 feet away from a stopped school bus under these conditions. Failing to do so not only endangers children but also carries significant legal consequences, including fines and potential license suspension.
By enforcing these laws through automated technology, the district aims to deter reckless driving behavior and create a safer environment for all students.
