The Montgomery County Office of Public Health (MCOPH) has announced that it has collected positive samples for West Nile Virus.
In West Pottsgrove, the township was notified by MCOPH that mosquito samples in the area of Fairview Street and Howard Street have tested positive for West Nile Virus.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, West Nile virus can result in febrile illness or neurologic disease, including meningitis or encephalitis. If you think you or a family member might have West Nile virus disease, talk with your health care provider.
There is no specific treatment for West Nile. Rest, fluids, and pain medications may relieve symptoms.

West Nile virus is spread to people through the bite of an infected mosquito. Mosquitoes bite during the day and night.
There are no vaccines or medicines to prevent West Nile.
The best way to prevent West Nile is to protect yourself from mosquito bites.

• Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants
• Treat clothing and gear
• Take steps to control mosquitoes indoors and outdoors
