Maurice Schofield, 58, of the 2200 block of E Washington Lane in Philadelphia, is facing felony charges stemming from an incident at the Willow Grove Park Mall, according to police.

On July 22, around 3:41 p.m., officers from the Abington Police Department were contacted by security at Macy’s, located at 2500 Moreland Road, for a report of theft, with the suspect already in custody, according to police.

Officers arrived on scene and spoke with a security guard at the store, who indicated that they observed a male, later identified as Schofield, in the Jewelry Department, Fragrance Department, Eyeware Department, Children’s and Clothing Department.

Scholfield allegedly selected the following items:

  • Polo little boys jogger: $69.50
  • Tommy Bahama maritime: $7.99
  • Versace eyeglasses: $375
  • Charter Club silver plate ring: $34.50

The total value of the merchandise was $486.99

Schofield took the items in the Boys Department fitting room. When Schofield exited, only the pair of Polo joggers was located. In the pocket of the Polo joggers was a damaged and cut security sensor, according to police.

Schofield was carrying a black backpack when he exited the fitting room, according to police. He then exited the store through the second level of the mall entrance, passing all point of sale, according to police.

When Schofield was stopped by authorities, he was found in possession of the Tommy Bahama fragrance, Versace eyeglasses, and he was wearing the Charter Club ring on his hand and Polo joggers under his pants, according to police.

Schofield also had a pair of wire cutters in his possession, according to police.

Schofield has two prior retail theft convictions, which elevates this incident to a felony charge.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 6 at 10:00 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Juanita A. Price.

Schofield did not post bail, which was set at $5,077.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
