Prior to Monday's game against the San Francisco Giants, Phillies manager Rob Thomson provided the latest updates on a trio of Phillies who are working their way back from injuries.
Weston Wilson (left oblique strain) is going to play second base for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, and do so for all nine innings. He began his rehab stint with Single-A Clearwater last week, going 1-for-10 in four games for the Threshers.
The Phillies opened Wilson's 20-day rehab period up on April 8, and they'll need to decide at the conclusion of that whether to add him to the 26-man MLB roster or option the 30-year-old to Lehigh Valley.
Meanwhile, Ranger Suárez (low back stiffness) will pitch again on Wednesday for Single-A Clearwater. His start was pushed back a day because the Palm Beach Cardinals — whom the Threshers are playing — are holding a pregame ceremony Tuesday with what Thomson described as "a whole bunch of hoopla," so the Phillies are moving it back just one day.
Suárez struck out four and allowed just one hit over three innings in his first rehab start for the Threshers last Thursday. Suárez will throw four innings and/or 55 pitches on Wednesday.
Finally, Andrew Painter will pitch for the Threshers again on Friday as he continues to build back up from the Tommy John surgery that he had in July of 2023. He's going to go three innings and/or 50 pitches.
Painter allowed two earned runs over 1 1/3 innings last Friday, which doesn't sound great. However, the 22-year-old came out healthy and did have some electric moments in a brief outing as he gets his feet wet again.
