As the weather starts to turn warmer, thieves are keeping an eye out for powersport vehicles -- like ATVs, motorcycles, motorized scooters, mini bikes and dirt bikes.
Given that these vehicles can be lifted or ridden away quickly and more easily than a car or truck, they are hot items for thieves. These thefts also often bring other problems like driving on sidewalks, groups of riders doing wheelies on interstates, and attempts to elude police at the expense of community safety. And, they often also include title washing investigations, counterfeit titles, re-vinned stolen vehicles, and identity theft investigations.

The Police Department also says to consider installing a tracking device to help find your vehicle if it's stolen. Or consider installing a kill switch that can shut off the vehicle from a remote location. Document your ATV or powersport vehicle's serial or VIN numbers and take photos of the vehicles for crime reporting or insurance purposes.
"As always, never leave your keys with your vehicle," HPD said. "Don't let a crook steal your fun.
