When you can mix a bit of fun, with a bit of physical activity, it can be a win-win situation, no matter what your age. When you can do both and add in support of your local community? Well, what’s not to love?

Thankfully the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce is joining forces with the WK Bray – Southampton Masonic Lodge #410 to host the Hatboro Federal “Skeleton Skurry” 5K and One-Mile Walk event on Oct. 26. Sponsored by Hatboro Federal, this 18th annual “premier Halloween race” has been bringing smiles and fun for quite some time in the Hatboro area.

With a United States Track and Field-certified (USTF) course, with automated chip timing, the race will be held (begins and ends) at Pennypack Elementary School/the Pennypack Community Center, located at 130 Spring Ave., Hatboro. The course will run throughout Hatboro, its surrounding neighborhoods, and finish with a fast downhill pitch. Both the 5K and one-mile walk begin and end at the space place.

Each participant will receive a long-sleeved event shirt if registered by Sept. 30. There will also be category medals for the first three finishers, male and female, by age. Groups of participants ages 8 and under, 9 to 10, 11 to 13, 14 to 16, 17 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 to 79, and 80 and over will compete at an age-appropriate level. There will also be overall winners for the first three males and three females of the entire race.

And, did we mention, there will be costumes, too? Prizes are awarded for best costumes, including Best Adult, Best Child, Scariest Adult, Scariest Child, Funniest Adult, and Funniest Child, as well as Best Group/Family-Themed costumes, with a unique prize for each category. Race participants do not have to wear a costume, as dressing-up is optional.

Parking will not be available at the school. Driver should instead park at the Lehman Memorial United Methodist Church at 300 S. York Road, Hatboro, or at the Dollar General, 317 S. York Road, Hatboro, or at Bank Street Parking Lot. Hosts of the event include the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce and WK Bray – Southampton Masonic Lodge #410, which bring the community this 18th annual event.

All proceeds from the day will benefit the Hatboro communities. This year, proceeds are specifically being used to purchase equipment needed for the Hatboro Police Department for a “Defensive Tactic Training Certificate.”

The Skeleton Skurry will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 8 a.m. to noon. For more information on the event, visit https://hatborochamber.org/event/hatboro-federal-skeleton-skurry/.
