Saquon Barkley Believes Giants Fans (Who Burned His Jerseys) Won't Boo Him on Sunday

Most of us know that Giants fans are some of the worst people on Earth.

But Saquon Barkley is giving them the benefit of the doubt.

"Maybe I'm naive, but I think it's over. That chapter's closed," Barkley said when discussing a potential negative reaction in his return to New York.

"I don't expect a great reaction. I don't expect to be booed. I look at it like this: The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Football Giants probably played in over 200 games. This rivalry was there before me, and it's going to be there after me."

Makes sense to me, Saquon Barkley.Β

Now let's check in on Giants fans' thoughts.

Hmmm.

"Naive? No Saquon, you are just delusional," wrote a Giants fan associated with Barstool Sports Wednesday morning. "It's your first game back at MetLife and you think fans will stand up and cheer for you? Fuck off. This man better get booed to the high heavens and quite frankly he deserves it all."

It's unclear why New Yorkers blame Barkley for his departure. ESPN reports that the Eagles offered several more million dollars than the Giants offered during two years of negotiations.

But they certainly do blame him.

On a related note, here's the reception Phillies fans gave Chase Utley at Citizens Bank Park when he returned in the uniform of a hated rival:

This Sunday's Eagles/Giants game will kick off at 1:00 p.m.
