If diving into its Cheeseburger Noodle Casserole reminded you of “home,” or if its Day After Thanksgiving sandwich had you craving November, we have some bad news for you.
After three years in the heart of Hatboro, the Street Food Sandwich Shop is closing its doors. Located at 7 S. York Road, the business ran on the hard work of its staff and the memories of a mother’s recipes.
“Street Food Sandwich Shop is a concept conceived from my mom’s cooking in the Olney neighborhood I grew up in,” said owner Ernie Pio. “It’s real food made with the passion and back-in-the-day authenticity.”
But sadly, Pio took to Facebook on Nov. 8 explaining his decision to close.
“After much thought, deliberation, and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close our Street Food Sandwich Shop, effective immediately,” he said in a social media post here.
Pio said the choice was not easy on him, and he that he’d met such great support from the local community.
“This decision was not made lightly, and we want to express our deepest gratitude to our customers and the Borough of Hatboro for your support over the years,” he said. “While we are sad to say goodbye, we are forever grateful for the friendships and memories we have made.”
If you find yourself in need of its original flavors, you will be happy to know that Street Food Sandwich Shop will continue to offer catering.
“We will continue to do catering from an alternate location, so please feel free to contact us via social media or email at [email protected] for all of your catering needs,” said the post.
Perhaps the Thanksgiving table needs a bit of Mac & Cheese? We won’t tell your cousins you ordered it from Street Food.
At the end of the day, we can all be glad we got to eat some of the recipes from this shop. And when the occasion arises, know that we still can.
“Thank you again for being a part of our journey,” said Pio. “It was a pleasure serving you.”
