It’s important to be sure that laws are actually followed, and sometimes the only way to ensure that is to double check that proper procedures are in place. The Hatboro Police Department did just that in its recent Tobacco Compliance Checks completed throughout the borough.
On Oct. 18, the Hatboro Police conducted a compliance check in conjunction with the Council of Southeast Pennsylvania.
“All borough retailers who are assigned a tobacco license through the state of Pennsylvania are subject to compliance checks throughout the year,” said Police Chief Mark D. Ruegg on the department’s CrimeWatch page. “Repeated violations can result in loss of the tobacco license.”
During this most recent compliance check, the department located two area businesses that were not meeting the proper requirements for its state-issued license. The two businesses were cited for violation of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code, Title 18 6305(a)(1), for the sale of tobacco to minors.
