Fire rescue teams are at the Hatboro Post Office Saturday night after calls for a building fire were reported to county dispatch.

According to dispatch notes, a call was received from the Hatboro Post Office, 12 N. York Road, in Hatboro, for the report of a commercial building fire. Those at the post office said they heard a “popping sound” from the ceiling area, and that smoke began to fill the building. One man at the scene said that the conditions made “his throat feel scratchy,” but he did not require emergency medical service attention.

As fire departments arrived, a smoky “haze” was reported, and the building was in the process of being evacuated. PECO was called to dispatch assistance to turn off the building’s electric.

Responding to the scene were units including Enterprise Fire Company of Hatboro, the Horsham Fire Company, the Second Alarmers Rescue Squad, and other local first responders.

No additional details on the cause or extent of the fire, nor any update on injuries, was available at this time. More information will be provided as it is made public.
