PECO, an energy provider for the Greater Philadelphia region, will be working on area upgrades, and in the meantime local police are hoping you remain safe and vigilant.
While a letter was sent to residents in impacted communities, the Hatboro Police Department’s Chief Mark D. Ruegg wanted to be sure those in and around the Borough remember a few simple steps that may keep them protected.
“As part of the gas line replacement, a PECO or PECO Contractor will need to shut off your natural gas service and then enter your home to relite your appliances after connection,” warned Ruegg via the department’s Crime Watch page. “All PECO and PECO Contractors will have proper identification and will show the homeowner, if and when requested.”
In an extra measure of safety, Ruegg asked that all take that step, and request that ID be shown to them before allowing entry.
“Never allow any individuals into your home without first checking for the proper identification,” he said.
PECO said that the work, which is slated to begin the final days of December, will continue through February 2025.
“We will be replacing the existing natural gas equipment to enhance service in your neighborhood,” said Amy Hamilton, the Vice President of PECO Gas Operation in a letter sent to all homeowners. “This includes installing new underground pipe, which is more durable, enhances safety and improves service reliability.”
The primary spot for the work to encompass will be the area of Warminster Road between Byberry Road and Tanner Avenue. PECO said in its letter that the work will be conducted between Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For those with additional questions about the project, PECO has directed residents to its contractor.
“This work will be performed by Riggs Distler, a qualified PECO contractor,” said Hamilton in the letter to homeowners. “If you have any questions or to schedule an appointment, please contact John Jester of Riggs Distler at 609-828-8919. If you have any other questions about this work and/or would like to provide any supplemental information, please call PECO Work Inquiries at 610-832-6420 or email [email protected].”
Area residents that are not currently using natural gas and are interested in learning more about the conversion process, can call PECO New Business at 866-685-5665.
