While out on patrol, local police were able to find a vehicle stolen out of Virginia by running its registration.

According to a criminal complaint, the Abington Police Department was on patrol on Nov. 13, around 9:48 p.m. in the area of Old York Road near Susquehanna Road, when a silver Chevy Equinox with Virginia plates was seen by police. After running its registration through the National Crime Information Center’s (NCIC) database, it was determined that the car was reported as stolen one day prior, police said.

A traffic stop was initiated by police, according to the complaint, with a fully marked patrol vehicle with lights and a siren. Police said that the car did not stop, despite passing several well-lit parking lots, and instead continued on, turning right onto Baeder Road at “a steady speed.” The complaint said that the police continued to follow, with lights and siren activated, as the car turned right onto Wyndale Road, and was nearly to Hilltop Road prior to it suddenly stopping. Police said, at that time, a driver and a passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward Old York Road.

The two suspects fled through “many residential yards,” and it required “many resources” to search for the two, according to police. Around 10:37 p.m., the suspects were located a short distance away from where the two had abandoned the vehicle, said the complaint, “walking in the shadows” on a residential property when officers found them.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jbarhi Reginald Orise, 22, of the unit block of Tall Pine Drive, in Hampton, Va. The passenger was identified as Janae Shenelle Allen, 21, of the 200 block of Pinter Circle in Newport News, Va.

Further investigation by police of the stolen vehicle proved that the suspects were in possession of seven mylar bags of marijuana, each labeled to contain 3.5 grams of marijuana, said the complaint. The keys to the car were in Orise’s possession, police said. Orise did not have a valid license to drive, according to reports.

Orise is charged with a felony count of conspiracy to receive stolen property, as well as misdemeanors including fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, conspiracy to evade arrest or detention on foot, conspiracy to hold marijuana, and loitering and prowling in the nighttime, and a summary offense of driving without a license.

Orise was released after posting $500 cash bail. He is due before Magisterial District Judge Juanita A. Price on Jan. 8, 2025 for a formal arraignment.

Allen was charged with felony counts of conspiracy to receive stolen property and receiving stolen property, as well as misdemeanors of evading arrest or detention on foot, marijuana for personal use, and loitering and prowling at nighttime.

Allen was released on a signature bail and is also due in the same court on the same date in 2025 for her formal arraignment.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
